Update on the Palestine Anesthesia Teaching Mission (PATM)
The above mission has been in operation since January 2011. Originally this mission was a combined effort of WFSA and the Canadian Anesthesiologists Society International Education Foundation (CASIEF).
The goal of the mission was to provide
educational support for anesthesia trainees in Palestine. Volunteer teachers
were recruited from anesthesia training centers in the developed world.
Volunteers typically spend one month teaching trainees both in the operating
room and in the classroom. To date a total of 12 anesthesiologists from 6
different countries have volunteered in East Jerusalem and the West Bank. Our
overall goal is to establish a formal anesthesia training program in Palestine
run by Palestinian anesthesiologists
We are very pleased to inform you that we
are now working in partnership with IMET2000 which is an international medical
education trust based in the United Kingdom.
IMET2000 will help us in many phases of our future operation. CASIEF
will still assist with recruitment of volunteers.
We are now recruiting volunteers for the
PATM for October, November and December of 2013 and as many as 8 volunteers for
2014. We do not deploy volunteers during
Ramadan or the summer months. We are interested in recruiting volunteers who
are trained anesthesiologists from around the world who have a special interest
in operating room and classroom teaching.
In summary we are very pleased to announce
that PATM has entered a new partnership with IMET2000 who will assist us in
many aspects of our ongoing operation.
